What is sucrose?

Sucrose is a compound which belongs to the sweeteners group. First, what are sweeteners and which is their function? Sweeteners are carbohydrates, it´s important to know that their main building block is sugar. These compounds main purpose is to provide the sweet flavor to food and maintain its freshness. Sucrose is include in the list of most common sugars, other compounds found in the list are glucose, fructose that is commonly found in fruits, galactose, lactose found in milk products and maltose. All of the mentioned sweeteners are contain in food which is also rich in vitamins, minerals and fiber. Sweeteners are usually include naturally in our daily diet, however they can also be added artificially. Therefore it’s impossible for our tongue to distinguish if it’s either a natural or an artificial sweetener, moreover when they enter to the digestive system our body is able to differentiate them.
